The University at Buffalo has launched a new partnership with Zipcar Inc., providing the campus with access to the car-sharing service.
According to a release, the convenient transportation option is now available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to all students, faculty, and staff members, ages 18 and older. Zipcar is an environmentally friendly alternative that supports UB’s Climate Action Plan and its efforts to improve campus sustainability. Every Zipcar takes 15 to 20 privately owned vehicles off the road.
Zipcar makes freedom, cost savings and helping the environment extremely easy for UB. Gas, 180 miles per day, insurance, reserved parking spots and roadside assistance are included in the hourly and daily Zipcar rates. Cars can be reserved for as short as an hour or for up to four days. Rates on all UB vehicles start as low as $8 per hour and $66 per day (24 hours).
The annual membership fee for anyone affiliated with UB is only $35 and UB applicants receive $35 worth of free driving credit that applies towards their first month of driving

The controversial Medicare Recovery Audit Contractor program is continuing as planned after federal officials cleared up some contracting disputes.
The rollout of the permanent, national Recovery Audit Contractor (RAC) program is proceeding, with the full implementation of the program expected across the country by Jan. 1, 2010.
Under the program, Medicare contracts with private companies to identify and correct improper payments made through the Medicare fee-for-service program. The contractors will be paid on a contingency fee basis for both the over-and underpayments that they identify.
During its demonstration phase, the RAC program came under fire from physician testers who said it placed the burden on physicians to prove that payments they received were correct.
Last November, officials at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services imposed an automatic stay on the program due to protests filed by two contractors who bid unsuccessfully to be part of the program. Under federal statute, the disputes were reviewed by the Government Accountability Office and a decision was issued earlier this year

This is good news if the exceedingly costly measures to reduce our CO2 output can be ended. This is the logical consequence of the negligible proportion of total world CO2 emissions accounted for by the UK, less than 2%, compared with those of China and the United States, whence the vast and increasing bulk of greenhouse gases come. Our notional targets for reductions in CO2, imposed by politicians on other politicians, can surely now be safely abandoned as mere green tokenism.
